Move furniture and place items with Viewpoint Interface

Build 42.21 · Current Viewpoint Interface author documentation checked October 21, 2026

The short answer

In Viewpoint Interface, aim at the furniture and choose its pickup action. After it reaches your inventory, choose Place, aim at the destination, rotate with the wheel and press E to place it. For a loose object, use Place Item; Shift places the whole stack. These are the Interface add-on's controls, not a universal replacement for the base game's furniture cursor.

Confirm which interaction system you are using

This guide targets Workshop item 3812616893, Mod ID ViewpointUI. Its author requires Viewpoint, ZombieBuddy and Build 42.21, with Interface loaded after Viewpoint. Review the intended Java part and enable the item for this world before testing.

Its default is aim-and-scroll: select an action with the wheel and use E. Hold and Vanilla are other interaction modes, configured in Options → Mods → Viewpoint Interface. Use the main Interface guide if an older tutorial's interaction mode differs from yours. Other Place Items and Construction companions are separate projects; this guide does not certify a combined stack.

Pick up, rotate and put down a furniture piece

  1. Use a backed-up test world and an accessible object, such as a chair. Inspect the game's offered pickup action and its requirements before committing a large move.
  2. Aim at the object and select pickup through Interface's action list. Let the game's action complete and confirm the furniture item reached inventory.
  3. Choose Place on that furniture item. Aim where you want it, inspect the preview and use the wheel to turn it.
  4. Press E to place. Verify the resulting position and orientation before repeating with more furniture.

The author says the server checks the game's own actions and permissions. A preview visible on your screen does not bypass missing materials, an unavailable action or server permissions. Read the actual response instead of repeatedly pressing the placement key.

Place a loose item instead of moving furniture

Select Place Item for the intended inventory object. Its preview appears where you aim, including a table top, shelf or floor. Turn it with the wheel or the configured Rotate key, then use E. Hold Shift when you intend to place the full stack rather than a single item.

Choose a harmless item for the first test. Confirm the destination and actual quantity placed before repeating with a valuable stack. A missing Viewpoint model and a blocked game action are different symptoms: the author says the three-dimensional preview uses Viewpoint models where available.

If the action or preview does not behave as expected

  • No pickup or Place action: confirm the correct add-on, world activation and interaction mode, then inspect the game's own requirements for that object.
  • A window captures the wheel: Interface intentionally gives scrolling to the window under a free cursor. Return to the intended placement interaction before testing rotation.
  • The action works but the object looks flat: check model coverage and loading; do not assume the placement itself failed.
  • You need the original windows: use Allow legacy UI, or Use the game's inventory windows for another inventory layout. Test that choice before uninstalling companions.

Success means the chosen furniture or item is actually at the intended position, with the intended orientation and quantity. If the same action still fails, collect the object, interaction mode, game/mod versions and console.txt for the author. The instructions are source-based, not our own gameplay reproduction.
