Viewpoint minimap: camera rotation, missing settings and zombie alerts
Enable Project Viewpoint Minimap (PZ3D Minimap) in the save you actually load, not only the main-menu mod list. In a running game, open Esc → Options → MODS for its settings. If it rotates with your character instead of the 3D camera, check its Java approval. To silence the warning, turn off Zombie approach alarm (3D); the map’s zombie radar is a separate setting.

Enable the map in this world
The original Workshop item is 3810179295, with Mod ID aparosa_pz3dMinimap. The author documents single-player and multiplayer use on Build 42.21. The current notes distinguish Project Viewpoint from the separate PZ3D renderer; PZ3D’s 0.7.0 server note is not a Viewpoint version number.
- Back up the world and confirm your existing camera and loader work.
- Subscribe to the original minimap item and enable it for that save through Load → your save → Mods, using the save’s mod-selection control. Main-menu activation alone does not update an existing world.
- Restart and review the minimap’s own Java approval, matching its identity and file path. Approval of the core camera does not approve every companion.
- Load the world, then open Esc → Options → MODS. The author says this tab appears while you are in a game; it is not a separate button directly on the Esc menu.
If the tab is absent, check this save’s enabled items before reinstalling everything. For a missing or blocked Java file, use the Java-state checks.
Tell camera tracking from character rotation
The minimap can work without allowing its Java part, but the author says it then follows your character rather than the 3D camera; its Game minimap look does not rotate in that state. A visible map is therefore not proof that camera tracking loaded.
In the documented 3D mode, the direction you look is up on the map. It can follow first person, third person and vehicle views, then switch back to the tilted 2D view; each side remembers its selected view. Compare turning the camera with turning the character before changing smoothing or reinstalling the core renderer.
Hover over the map to reveal the controls. Drag with the left mouse button to reposition it; use the wheel or range buttons to zoom. The other controls change size, view mode, radar, map look and square/round frame. The ordinary local range is 5–50 tiles around you; the separate Game minimap look can zoom out to the whole map.
The floor plan follows your current floor. Ordinary local drawing uses the area loaded around you, about 50 tiles each way; a missing distant area is not automatically a failed download. Keep this separate from the Game minimap look and the option to show only places you have seen.
Turn off the alarm without removing the map
In Esc → Options → MODS, untick Zombie approach alarm (3D) to stop the approach warning. Set Zombie radar to Off if you also want to remove radar information. These are different features: turning off one is not a test of the other.
The author describes the alarm as an indicator for nearby zombies outside your visible view, including behind walls or shelves, with direction, edge arrows and sound. Range, angle, sound and display settings can be changed. It is not a guarantee that every threat will be detected or that a particular modded setup is safe.
An author reply about version 1.7.18 says OldPoint overhead has its own remembered minimap mode. In that view, alarms and marking beams are off by default; separate options can enable them. If they disappear only when you enter OldPoint, compare those options before treating it as a broken Java file. This is a documented version-specific behavior, not our gameplay test.
On a server, the administrator can limit radar, alarm distance, visibility rules, render range and Game-map zoom in the Project Viewpoint / PZ3D Minimap sandbox page. Settings above that limit use the server’s value. A client changing its own preference cannot establish that the server permits it.
Check the result and isolate a remaining problem
You are done when the map appears in the intended world, the direction tracks the intended view, and radar and alarm match your chosen settings. Test changing floors and returning from 3D to 2D as separate observations.
If it still fails, the author requests a new test save with only the selected 3D mod, ZombieBuddy and the minimap. Preserve the real world. Record game/mod versions, 2D or 3D, single-player or multiplayer, expected and actual behavior, and lines around the first error in console.txt. Submit that information to the item’s Bug Reports discussion. The author does not promise compatibility answers for every other mod.
Racha’s companion overview includes a minimap chapter at 5:05. It is creator footage, not our compatibility test or a substitute for the current settings above.
For the overhead camera itself, use OldPoint controls. For Workshop and Mod ID fields on a server, use the two-ID setup guide.
