Turn off Viewpoint hills: the Terrain Relief setting

Build 42.21 · Viewpoint alpha-0.1.6 · Sources checked October 11, 2026

The short answer

Press Delete, open World → Detail and turn off Terrain Relief. The author says the experimental hills were not intended to be on by default. This changes Viewpoint rendering; do not regenerate your world to troubleshoot the appearance.

Identify the hills before changing mods

Alpha-0.1.6 adds experimental terrain relief to the camera mod itself. A 3D furniture pack is a separate layer. If your familiar street suddenly looks uneven after the update, check this setting before installing a terrain pack or removing your object models.

The menu names here are the author’s English labels. Check the Viewpoint version actually loaded in your session; an older video may not show this menu.

Restore the flat view in a safe scene

  1. Stop somewhere safe and note your current preset and terrain setting. Back up the world before experimenting with its mod set.
  2. Open Delete → World → Detail. Toggle Terrain Relief off.
  3. Close the menu and compare the same ground from the same camera angle. Avoid changing shader, model distance and terrain together.
  4. If the control is absent, check that the installed core is alpha-0.1.6. Do not assume a companion’s options screen is the core settings window.

Separate uneven ground from missing objects

Turning off hills is a useful comparison when a scene is hard to navigate or a vehicle looks tilted. It is not a documented fix for every collision, roof or interaction issue.

If furniture becomes flat instead, use model-pack activation and chunk-distance checks. If the frame is blurry, keep terrain fixed while following upscaling versus native-resolution checks.

Report a repeatable terrain problem

Save screenshots of the same location with relief on and off, the core version, preset and GPU, plus the failed session’s console.txt. State whether walking, driving or only the picture is affected. We have checked the author’s instructions, not tested this setting on your save; experimental relief can still have rendering problems.
