Find the weather forecast on a radio while using Viewpoint

Base-game radio · B42.12 wiki and October 8, 2026 player reports

The short answer

Look for the Automated Emergency Broadcast System preset on a powered radio, note its frequency and listen on the hour for the weather report. The frequency varies by world; there is no single number to copy. Viewpoint changes the view, so you do not need a new weather HUD just to use the base-game broadcast.

Find your own world’s emergency station

The October 8 Viewpoint weather question asks how to plan around rain. Replies point to the base game's emergency broadcast. PZwiki describes its mechanics, but marks the article for unstable Build 42.12; the current player replies corroborate the approach, not every detail on every later build.

  1. Find a radio with power or a working battery. Examine its available presets.
  2. Look for the emergency broadcast preset. Player replies suggest checking military or police vehicles; a particular radio is not guaranteed to have it.
  3. Write down the frequency from your own world and tune another suitable radio to it if needed.
  4. Save a custom preset where your installed radio UI permits it, so you can return without losing the number.

A frequency supplied by another world's screenshot can be wrong for your save. If the preset is absent, check another receiver rather than treating a guessed number as the official channel.

Turn the broadcast into a short planning note

The wiki describes an hourly broadcast on the hour, with current-day and next-day weather. Keep the receiver powered and tuned when the hour changes. Read the actual message rather than expecting a continuously visible forecast panel.

  1. Note the in-game date and time of the broadcast.
  2. Separate today's conditions from the next-day forecast.
  3. Use that note to plan a water trip, outdoor work or travel, then listen again before relying on an older report.

This guide does not promise a four-day forecast or an exact rain-start time. A smartwatch mentioned in the thread was not independently verified here and is not required for this radio method.

Check whether your mod changes local weather rules

True Weathers & Lighting distinguishes visual rendering from its optional Gameplay module. The author describes Gameplay's regional moving storm cells and local wetness. A general forecast is therefore not proof that rain will wet a particular barrel at your exact position when those rules are active.

Record whether Gameplay is enabled and compare the local weather you actually see. Use the module and settings guide for that distinction. The radio method reads the base-game forecast; we have not tested a synchronized, location-specific forecast integration for every weather mod.

If you hear no useful report

  • No power or an inactive receiver: check its battery/power state and that the receiver is on.
  • Wrong channel: compare the number with the emergency preset in this world.
  • Between reports: keep listening across the next in-game hour rather than judging from a few seconds of silence.
  • Forecast and local rain differ: note the forecast time and active weather modules before reporting a bug.

If the radio controls cannot be reached in your current overlay, check cursor unlock and the installed interface mode. Do not erase radio settings or install an unverified weather add-on merely because the Viewpoint HUD has no forecast.
