Check Build 42 Stable, Unstable and Viewpoint compatibility

Build 42.21 · ZombieBuddy v2.3.4 · Sources checked October 7, 2026

The short answer

As checked October 7, 2026, the official site lists both Stable and Unstable as 42.21; 42.21 Stable released September 28. An old instruction to opt into Unstable is not automatically required today. Match the actual client, server and mod versions before changing branches.

Read the version rather than the video date

The Indie Stone now describes an update going through Unstable testing before Stable. Its 42.21 announcement addresses multiplayer zombie duplication and tree cutaway behavior, while noting remaining work. Those changes are not a fix for every Viewpoint model or shader issue.

Record the version shown by your game, its selected Steam beta and the server's version. A server administrator controls their installation separately. If they differ, arrange a matching supported version; installing a camera mod does not synchronize them.

Check the entire dependency chain

Viewpoint add-ons have independent requirements: the model pack documents 42.21.0/Viewpoint 0.1.3, Movement lists 42.21 and ZombieBuddy 2.3.0 or newer, and this site's loader instructions are pinned to v2.3.4.

Check Workshop pages for your actual releases and note approval prompts after changed Java files. Do not assume an old temporary loader fix is still needed alongside a newer runtime. Keep versioned instructions with your mod-list note.

Back up before changing branches

  1. Close the game and copy the complete world and relevant settings.
  2. Record the old game/mod versions and keep the backup outside live folders.
  3. Test the intended branch and mod set on a separate world first.
  4. If the old world fails, preserve both it and the backup while collecting the error.

A newer save is not guaranteed to load in an older build. See the backup workflow and client/server mod checks. We do not supply a universal downgrade or save-conversion recipe.
