Project Viewpoint vs pz3d: choose the camera and model setup
Choose the renderer whose documented controls and features match your task. Viewpoint uses O, with Shift + O for first/third person, and offers its own shaders and companion ecosystem. pz3d uses Insert; its current 0.9.0 release already includes the PZ3D edition of the 6244 models. Both require a configured ZombieBuddy loader; neither is installed merely by copying the other mod's key list.

Compare the documented setup, not a cinematic clip
| Checkpoint | Project Viewpoint | pz3d 0.9.0 |
|---|---|---|
| Enter the 3D camera | O; Shift+O changes first/third person. | Insert or the left-side 3D icon. |
| Settings | Delete for renderer settings; companions have their own options. | Options → Mods → pz3d for the documented view-key binding. |
| Loader | ZombieBuddy with the correct platform and launch-mode setup. | Official ZombieBuddy 2.3.4 or newer. |
| Furniture models | The linked 6244 Viewpoint pack is a separate optional item. | The PZ3D edition is bundled in 0.9.0; no separate copy is required. |
| Game memory | The optional 6244 pack lists at least 4 GB allocated to the game. | The current author requests at least 6 GB allocated to the game. |
These are authors' requirements, not benchmarks or recommendations to assign all physical RAM to the game. A model count does not establish which renderer is faster on your GPU.
Choose a feature before adding companions
Viewpoint is the documented route here for its shader presets, core controller controls, OldPoint overhead camera and the specific companions covered by this site. Start with the core setup, then choose only the extra action you need.
For pz3d, follow its current author instructions rather than an older pz3d Loader tutorial. Version 0.9.0 bundles its object models and changes model archive loading. A description of 0.7.1 that still requires a separate PZ3D model pack is an older setup, even if the comparison page was recently found in search.
The Viewpoint model pack and the PZ3D model edition target different renderers. Check the original item identity instead of subscribing to both because their names contain 6244. Test one renderer at a time on separate backed-up worlds; we have not verified a combined renderer stack.
Avoid the wrong-key and wrong-runtime diagnosis
O is not pz3d's documented 3D toggle; Insert alone is not Viewpoint's ordinary first-person toggle. If the intended key does nothing, first confirm which renderer is enabled in that world and whether its Java component loaded.
pz3d documents click-right-mouse ADS, hold-right-mouse target mode, E interaction, wheel zoom/quick actions and Tab tap/hold for overlay/cursor. Those controls are not a Viewpoint QOL map. In Viewpoint, use the core camera controls and the options of each companion actually enabled.
Check platform, server and evidence limits
Both authors describe multiplayer support, but that does not certify every server mod list. Verify the target renderer and companions with the administrator, plus each client's loader and approvals. The current pz3d description does not provide a controller key map; do not turn that absence into a tested incompatibility claim.
The pz3d author directs native Linux users to its installation site and still describes macOS support as unfinished. Viewpoint's October setup also warns about macOS. A loader's platform instructions are not proof that every renderer works on that platform.
Compare the same scene, resolution, preset and mod set if performance determines your choice. This site has no controlled side-by-side FPS test, all-save compatibility result or universal winner. Success is a working chosen camera and the specific feature you needed, with a reproducible setup you can explain.
