Use Advanced Throwables without dropping a grenade at your feet

Build 42 · Advanced Throwables author instructions checked October 22, 2026

The short answer

Enable Viewpoint — Advanced Throwables after Viewpoint and review its Java approval. With a grenade or other throwable, hold Attack to charge and release to throw. For other held items use G. Left Alt makes an underhand throw, crouching rolls it, and X cancels. Test with a harmless object before using explosives.

Check the add-on before treating an error as a physics problem

The original item is 3813194971, Mod ID ViewpointAdvancedThrowables. Its author requires ZombieBuddy and Viewpoint 0.1.6 or newer, with the companion after Viewpoint. The author specifically describes replacing the old isometric throw that could leave a grenade or molotov at your feet in Viewpoint.

Enable it in the intended save, restart and check its own Java approval on the client. A green Lua entry or working camera does not establish that this companion loaded. For a missing or denied file, use Java loading state before changing throw strength or replacing files.

Aim, charge, release or cancel

  1. In a separate world, hold a harmless item and face an open area clear of players, vehicles and valuable objects.
  2. Prepare the throw with Attack for a throwable or G for another held item. A quick tap produces a short toss; holding charges a longer one.
  3. Aim with the crosshair. Holding Viewpoint's free-look key keeps the throw aim where it was instead of following your glance.
  4. Hold Left Alt for underhand or crouch to roll. Release to throw, or press X to cancel.
  5. Check that the intended item left your hand and traveled toward the chosen place before trying a different object.

Rebind in Settings → Mods. Turning off Attack button throws grenades makes grenades use G too. If G invokes another installed companion, inspect both effective bindings and test one change at a time; overlapping defaults alone do not prove universal incompatibility.

Understand windows, effects and aiming help

Open or broken windows let throws pass. Closed glass stops them unless the throw is strong enough to break it; barricades block them. Wall and furniture bounces are intended physics, so an obstructed path is not proof that the Java file failed.

Molotovs still require a lighter. The author preserves the underlying game's effects and fuse types: pipe bombs trigger on landing, while aerosol and smoke bombs use timers. Do not infer identical behavior for every item because its preview looks similar.

Optional Off, Simple or Full aiming help can show a landing ring or arc. A server can limit the preview and object weight. A missing full arc on a server therefore needs a rules check before a reinstall.

The author documents Guns of Marz M79 and M203 grenades traveling from the muzzle with drop and their actual fuses, alongside True Ballistics. That integration does not establish a fix for the separate problem of adding or removing gun attachments.

Separate client runtime and server validation

The companion's server logic is plain Lua; the author says it does not need ZombieBuddy's Java runtime on the server. Clients still need their documented loader setup and approval. Keep this distinct from other companions that offer an optional server Java module.

Administrators use the Viewpoint Throwables sandbox page for object throwing, weight, charge, speed, previews, collision, validation, cooldowns, damage and related rules. Ask for the actual relevant setting instead of disabling validation to conceal an error.

If a basic throw still fails, retain the full error, item, view, effective input, game/mod versions, client approval state and server rules. Compare a minimal test world before changing the real save. No single unspecified error message identifies a universal repair, and this is an author-based guide rather than our gameplay test.
